    Responsible to: Procurement Director

    Responsible for: Team of Buyers

    Location: Fareham

    Salary: 40 - 50k plus benefits

    Overall Purpose/Objectives of Role

    To develop and manage the purchasing function, in order to satisfy Business objectives

    Key duties:

    1.To assist the Procurement Director in the formulation and execution of purchasing strategy.

    2.To manage and develop the capabilities of the purchasing function.

    3.Pro-active supplier & sub-contractor management.

    4.Ensure ERP purchasing module is effectively managed and utilised, including problem identification and resolution.
    5.Ensure that purchasing intake value is in line with budgets, taking appropriate action where relevant.
    6.Manage purchase costs and identify/deliver cost reduction activities.
    7.Ensure defective parts are returned to suppliers in line with Company procedures.
    8. Understand and be fully compliant with all relevant export controls and legislation and be fully conversant with the Export Policy.

    9.Co-ordinate/assist in Group purchasing activities

    10. Ensure relevant KPI's and action plans are produced and maintained to drive improvements.

    11.Negotiate and manage supplier contracts.

    Experience Required:

    Knowledge, workload and priorities
    -Able to demonstrate an understanding of priorities and manage work in accordance with this.
    -The ability to recognise and manage changing priorities.
    -Experience of running a Purchasing function within a supply chain.
    -Able to demonstrate progress through vendor management.
    -Extensive experience of using an MRP I & MRPII systems and how to optimise the systems to suit differing business models
    -Ability to manage supplier and communicate effectively with contacts
    -Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of Export requirements
    Judgement
    -Able to make judgements about the materials flow and able to solve problems in a structured approach
    -Experience of giving advice / instructions to the members of a team on a range of purchasing issues
    Customer understanding
    -Ability to demonstrate the importance of customers to the business
    -Ability to progress orders for a number of customers at the same time
    -
    Business Skills:

    Time management and planning
    -Focused on target completion
    -A good proactive manner in regard to work planning
    -Can work on a number of projects at the same time.
    -Experience of lean manufacturing techniques
    Negotiating skills
    -Experienced in negotiating use of resources with other departments
    -Experience of agreeing actions with others and following this through
    Budgetary skills
    -A good overall understanding of the financial structure of a business
    -Experience of planning measures to control an area of work
    -Experience of reporting against budgetary targets
    -Experience of defining and putting in place action plans to improve performance against targets

    Personal Skills:

    Communication
    -Experience of working with suppliers (UK & Overseas)and other company departments.
    -Can communicate effectively with different levels of staff.
    -Experience of report writing
    -Concise written communication skills including report writing
    -Good IT skills, to include MS Office
    Innovation/problem solving
    -Capable of suggesting different ways of working to achieve agreed results
    -Logical approach to problem solving and experienced in implementing KPI's and review process to measure performance.

    -High levels of drive & enthusiasm, and the ability to work to tight deadlines and timescales.

    You will be degree qualified in a related subject and CIPS qualified or willing to become CIPS qualified with good understanding of supply chain function and experience in a similar role
