Job Description
Senior Programme Manager, Public Health Research Programme
£34435 - £43622 per annum plus benefits
The NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC), School of Medicine
The University of Southampton is home to the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC) which was established in April 2008. NETSCC is overseeing a growing number of programmes that are managed on behalf of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
The Public Health Research programme is one of these. It evaluates non-NHS interventions intended to improve the health of the public and reduce inequalities in health public health interventions, and in doing so provides new knowledge on the benefits, costs, acceptability and wider impacts of these interventions.
As a senior programme manager you will provide the bridge between the programme’s overall strategy and operation and will have a key influence on both. Your responsibilities will include planning, detailed analysis, managing and developing team members, ensuring the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of the team’s work and liaising with people in a range of organisations. You will be joining an enthusiastic and cohesive team who are committed to adding maximum value to the management of public health research.
You should be qualified to degree level or equivalent and may also hold an professional qualification in a relevant profession. Ideally, you should have experience of working with or within a public service organisation whose work contributes broadly to improving the health of the public, such as a local authority or charity. The scope of the programme is multi-disciplinary and broad, covering a range of interventions that improve public health.
You will need a flexible approach to work, a proven track record in successful management of projects. With excellent people management and communications skills, you will be capable of building and maintaining working relationships with senior managers, researchers and service providers.
This is an outstanding opportunity in a rapidly expanding department. In addition, the University offers the many benefits of a good employer – a final salary pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and excellent leisure and arts facilities.
